Dalton sign record-breaking JP van Aswegen - 03/11/14

JP van Aswegen - Batting DALTON Cricket Club have signed prolific young South African batsman JP van Aswegen ahead of their 2015 season.

JP van Aswegen (21) etched his name into the record books last summer after his stunning innings of 248 for Mold Cricket Club in the North Wales ECB Premier League.

The South African star faced 156-balls, hit 172 runs in boundaries (12x6s, 25x4s) and struck his first and second hundreds off 77 and 53 balls respectively. His magnificent double century broke the record for the highest club and league score.

It was a memorable innings for the all-rounder, who went on to score 975 runs at 54.16 in the Premier League – finishing second to Sydney Thunder batsman Blake Dean on the run charts. He also picked up 28 wickets at 24.75 with his leg-spin and, was arguably the league’s best all-rounder last summer.

It was van Aswegen’s second season with Mold, following a strong maiden stint in 2013 striking 600 runs at 37.50 alongside 36 wickets at 25.17. He had, the previous season played in the West of England Premier League (Bristol and North Somerset Division) hitting 632 runs at 37.18 plus 34 wickets at 15.71 (including 375 runs at 93.75 and 17 wickets at 8.29 in the Sunday North Somerset League).

He has also been a strong performer in the Gauteng Premier League for Caxton Khosa and is now actively pushing towards first-class cricket.

Van Aswegen though, will once again return to Northern shores and will be hoping to replicate last season's exploits for Dalton in the North Lancs and Cumbria League next summer.
