Dubbo to Duffield for promising Patterson - 11/02/15

Ben PattersonDUFFIELD have signed promising young Australian all-rounder Ben Patterson ahead of their DCCL campaign.

Patterson (19) is a highly regarded right-arm quick who made his Sydney Grade debut for Hawkesbury recently. The new recruit has started in the 2nd Grade, but club coach Chuck Matthews believes the youngster has the potential for higher honours in future.

Patterson was picked up by Hawkesbury after his NSW Country U19 selection and exploits for ACT at the National Under-19 Championships. He produced useful all-round returns, including best performances of 37 and 3-48.

The country boy from Dubbo (300 km north-west of Sydney) has enjoyed huge success through the juniors and boasts a raft of country representative experience.

Before his move into Sydney Grade cricket, he played local cricket for Newtown, then Dubbo Rugby in the Dubbo District first-grade competition. In 2013/14 he scored 209 runs at 29.86 and took 34 wickets at 13.88 for the latter.

He also represented various representative sides including the Western Cricket Zone Under-19s (13 wickets at 9.15), Western Rivers Under-19s, Combined High Schools (7 wickets at 12.71) and the senior Dubbo District Cricket Association (10 wickets at 20.40).

During the 2013 winter, the Western Zone Junior Player of the Year (2012/13) was selected for a 9-match tour to the UK with the NSW Combined High Schools.

He played in 7 of the 9 matches, only going wicket-less in one match, with best figures of 4-26 (6) against the Scotland Under-19s.

The previous year, he’d ventured to South Africa for the Indoor Cricket World Cup playing for the Australian Under-19s.

Now Patterson is set to join Duffield for the 2015 season and he's eager to make an impact in Division One of the Derbyshire County Cricket League.
