East Grinstead come up trumps with Cachopa - 03/03/15

Carl CachopaEAST GRINSTEAD have signed Auckland Aces all-rounder Carl Cachopa for their Sussex League campaign.

Cachopa (28) is batting all-rounder playing for the Aces in New Zealand domestic cricket. He returned to Auckland this season after four prolific summers with Central Districts (2010/11-2013/14).

Over 32 first-class matches for the Stags, the oldest of the three Cachopa brothers scored 1,861 runs at 36.49 including 6 centuries and 7 fifties (alongside 22 wickets at 37.59 with his brisk medium pace).

He enjoyed a record-breaking purple patch for the Stags hitting each of his 6 centuries in 7 successive first-class games between March and November 2012.

His form over the 2011/12 (667 runs at 47.64) and 2012/13 (813 runs at 42.78) seasons culminated with New Zealand XI selection in February 2013 against the touring England side.

Later in the year, he represented New Zealand A in 4 first-class and 6 List-A outings against India and Sri Lanka where he averaged 43.66 and 28 respectively including a 104 against the latter.

Since Cachopa’s return to Auckland, he’s failed to reach the same dizzy heights, but courtesy of his impressive domestic record with over 3,000 runs and 7 centuries, he remains firmly in the national radar.

The South African-born kiwi all-rounder, who benefits from a European Passport, is set to wing his way back to England in 2015 having recently signed with Sussex Premier League side East Grinstead.
