Ekstraal eager to cash in for HSBC - 20/02/15

Denovan EkstraalHSBC have secured the services of South African all-rounder Denovan Ekstraal for their Kent League campaign.

Ekstraal (28) is a genuine pace bowling all-rounder with a proven record at home in South Africa and abroad in UK league cricket.

A product of the South West Districts system, he represented the province through the age-groups and made First-Class and List-A debut’s in February 2007.

These, surprisingly proved to be his only appearances at senior level for SWD, despite taking figures of 3-12 from 7 overs in the second innings against Kei.

Thereafter, Ekstraal represented the South African Rural team and was in the wider Western Province squad. He continues to excel in club cricket for his St Augustines in the WPCA 1B Competition in Cape Town.

Abroad, Ekstraal has been a consistent performer for the four clubs he has represented, namely Old Elizabethans (2009, 2013), Newark Ransome and Marles (2011), Langley Manor (2012) and Barton (2014).

Across his five seasons, he has amassed 2,056 league runs averaging 31 and taken 127 wickets at 19.50.

The 2011 season in the Bassetlaw League was his most prolific scoring 563 runs at 40.21 alongside 41 wickets at 20.07.

That said, in 2013 he also churned out 1,363 runs at 54.52 including 5 centuries (plus 28 wickets at 25.54) in both Division 2 of the Birmingham League and Worcestershire Sunday League.

Ekstraal will be hoping to replicate this success in the Kent League this coming summer.
