Geddington sign Pakistani run machine Shoaib Nasir - 02/10/15

GEDDINGTON have signed Pakistani first-class run machine Shoaib Nasir for their 2016 Northants Premier League campaign.

Nasir (32) is a high-class left-hand batsman who boasts an impressive record in Pakistani domestic cricket. In 28 first-class matches, the Rawalpindi run machine has churned out 1,498 runs at 28.26 including three centuries.

However, it was in the Quad-e-Azam final last year that pushed his name into the limelight. Nasir struck a brilliant 177 in the second innings which ultimately guided his side to the title and, of course he quite rightly was named the Man-of-the-Match.

He concluded the 2013/14 season with 656 runs at 38.58 finishing second to Pakistani T20 player Awais Zia as Rawalpindi’s leading run-scorer during their triumphant campaign.

Whilst he failed to replicate his success of the previous season, Nasir scored another 350 runs at 23.33 in first-class in 2014/15.

Nasir has played two seasons abroad, firstly for Wellingborough Town in Division 1 of the Northants League (583 runs at 64.77 and 22 wickets at 17.36), then last summer with Derbyshire ECB Premeir League club Lullington Park (611 runs at 38.19).

It was though, his brilliant century against Geddington that generated their interest in signing the Pakistani professional. In 2012, he struck an explosive (9x4s, 10x6s) 131 to help set up a big victory over his new club.

The Premier outfit will be hoping Nasir produces similar returns for them throughout the 2016 season.
