HCC re-sign Vandiar - 04/12/15

Jonathan Vandiar

HCC retain South African batsman Jonathan Vandiar following his explosive season in the Hoofdklasse.

Vandiar (25) set the Hoofdklasse alight last season, powering HCC to promotion, churning out a massive 840 runs at 76.36 to finish top of the league's run charts.

His exploits were rewarded with The Netherlands Player/Coach of the Year award, as voted for by the KNCB and public, beating off rivals Roelof van der Merwe, Stevie Smidt and Michael Price.

A prolific run-scorer, Vandiar also boasts a tremendous domestic record in South Africa, having played 172 matches and smashing 10 centuries amongst 6,133 runs across all formats.

He has particularly excelled in first-class cricket with 3,494 runs at 35.65 comprising 646 runs at 29.36 for the Dolphins, 1,637 runs at 33.40 for the Lions and for his KwaZulu-Natal side 1,051 runs at 47.77.

Vandiar was rewarded with a South African A call-up in 2010 and one of his highlights was a 57-ball 60 against a star-studded Australian A attack including Mitchell Starc, Mitch Marsh and Nathan Lyon.

In 2011/12 he struck 523 runs at 32.68 for the Lions, another 624 runs at 39 in 2012/13 and a barnstorming 2013/14 season with 530 runs at 58.88 including two bumper centuries.

Courtesy of his exploits in the Hoofdklasse, HCC did not hesitate to re-sign Vandiar for their upcoming season returning to the top flight.
