Highlanders sign Bay of Plenty batsman - 23/02/16

LEPTON HIGHLANDERS have secured the services of Bay of Plenty batsman Cameron Neal for season 2016. 

Neal (22) is an accomplished batsman playing for the Bay of Plenty Senior Men’s side in the respective Fergus Hickey and Hawke Cup competitions.

A hard-hitting top-order batsman and economical off-spinner, Neal plays for the BOP provincial side alongside Blackcaps Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Daniel Flynn and Knights’ players Joe Carter, Bharat Popli, Tony Goodin and Nick Kelly.

Neal plays his club cricket for Greerton who have been Bay Wide Champions the past two seasons. They also won the Northern Districts Club Championships, then finished 4th at the National Club Champs in 2014/15.

He has been a stand-out for Greerton at Premier club level since the 2012/13 season, averaging 36.04 (2012/13), 689 runs at 28.70 (2013/14), 730 at 30.41 (2014/15) and 452 at 32.28 in the current 2015/16 season.

Neal was Greerton’s top run-scorer and most valuable batsman in 2012/13 and highest run-scorer in the Williams Cup the following season.

In 2014/15 he was the Bay of Plenty Development sides top run-scorer and batsman of the year. Neal also tops the runs for Greerton in the current 2015/16 season.

Neal has spent the last three years playing for the Bay of Plenty Senior Men’s side to include 19 matches. The BOP were national Hawke Cup winners in 2012/13, including 4 defences. They were also Brian Dunning winners in the current season, with Neal making positive contributions.

The talented batsman has enjoyed much success in the Bay over the past few years and having recently completed his Bachelor in Sport and Recreation from the University of Auckland, with a post graduate diploma in Primary School Teaching from the University of Waikato, he now has the opportunity to play abroad in 2016.

He has subsequent agreed terms with Drakes Huddersfield club Lepton Highlanders and will be eager to impress in what will be his maiden stint abroad. .
