Kelso sign Dolphins prospect Joel Veeran - 26/02/19

Joel Verran

Kelso have signed promising South African first-class player Joel Veeran for their 2019 ESCA campaign.

Veeran (20) is one of the brightest prospects coming through the Dolphins ranks in South Africa. The exciting batsman, who doubles as a competent gloveman and off-spin bowler, skippered KwaZulu-Natal at Coke Week in December 2016 and earned a first-class debut for the province in March 2017. To date, the talented all-rounder has played 12 first-class and 7 List A games (averaging 24.93 and 21.66 respectively) and looks set for a big future in the game.

Veeran represented KZN through every age-group, winning many accolades along the way, including KZN Under-19 “Player of the Year” in 2015/16. He topped KZN’s run charts (190 runs at 47.50), finishing 7th overall in the Coke Week batting aggregates in December 2015.

Courtesy of these exploits, he won selection for the South African Colts, before representing the Dolphins Cubs in both the 2016 and 2017 Academy Weeks. Veeran has been recognised by Cricket South Africa with inclusion in their South African Under-17 talent camp previously.

He starred for the prestigious Glenwood High, former school to the likes of Jade Dernbach (England), Colin Munro (New Zealand), Mthokozisi Shezi, Andile Phehlukwayo (South Africa), hitting 550 runs at 52 with a best of 92 against Hilton College in 2015/16.

Veeran has enjoyed leadership roles throughout his career, at both Glenwood HS and KZN representative level. A fantastic talent, who comes highly recommended as a player for the future.

Veeran is set to embark on his maiden overseas stint in 2019 having recently signed with East of Scotland's Kelso Cricket Club. The South African will be keen to impress and push for higher honours on his return to his homeland in September.
