Kirkburton sign Sri Lankan Ruwantha Ekanayake - 02/12/18

Ruwantha Ekanayake

Kirkburton have signed promising Sri Lankan all-rounder Ruwantha Ekanayake for their 2019 season.

Ekanayake (25) is an exciting talent who is embarking on his maiden stint in Australia (for Cricket Bayside club Bentleigh), following two seasons playing Sri Lankan first-class cricket.

He played for Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club alongside fellow CricX stars Malith Cooray, Keshan Wijerathne and skipper Hashan Gunathilaka.

A genuine all-rounder, Ekanayake is a left-handed batsman and right-arm leg-spinner who enjoyed plenty of success in his two season's of first-class cricket, averaging 31.95 and 30.66 with bat and ball respectively after 15 matches.

Kirkburton Chairman, James Newsome, was delighted and stated "exciting new first class talented batting leg-spin all-rounder joining Kirkburton to boss the league".

Given his first-class numbers and Australian experience, the in-form Sri Lankan, who took figures of 6-32 against McKinnon last week, has the pedigree to impress in the Drakes Huddersfield League in 2019.
