Kiwi Cooper to winter with Witham - 03/02/15

Sam CooperWITHAM Cricket Club have snapped up Northern Districts A batting all-rounder Sam Cooper for the 2015 season.

Cooper (21) is a strong all-round prospect who has progressed through the Waikato Valley and Northern Districts ranks. He has featured for both the Minor and Major Association’s respective age-groups sides, to include National Under-18 and Under-19 tournaments.

Cooper was selected in the New Zealand Under-19 squad for the World Cup held in Dubai (February 2014), but an ankle injury prevented his inclusion within the touring party.

Injury, namely leg stress fractures, have hampered Cooper’s bowling progress (in-particular) in recent years, yet he was still named Waikato Valley Senior Men’s most valuable player in 2013/14 courtesy of his batting exploits.

Whilst pursuing cricket, he is also undertaking a Bachelor of Management Studies at Waikato University. A Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar, Cooper plans to major in Economics and Psychology in a view to entering the business world, hopefully after a long career in professional cricket.

The talented has signed to play in the Two Counties Cricket Championship for Witham where he hopes to impress and break into higher honours upon his return to New Zealand.
