Latrobe sign Notts debutant centurian Jake Libby - 16/09/14

Jake Libby TASMANIAN club Latrobe are delighted to announce the signing of Jake Libby who struck a debut century for Notts today.

The 21-year-old batsman from Cornwall made a sensational First Class debut for Nottinghamshire today – with a century against Sussex at Trent Bridge.

Libby, who plays in the Cornwall ECB Premier League for Callington and  Cardiff Met University hit a brilliant hundred on the second day of the Notts’ final County Championship match of the season.

He struck 108 from 262 deliveries and hit 16 fours in his 289 minute innings. He shared an opening stand of 97 with England batsman Alex Hales and was then part of a third wicket partnership of 181 with another England player, James Taylor.

He became the fourth player to make a century on his First Class debut for Notts at Trent Bridge, and the first since Frederick Stocks in 1946.

Libby, who secured his first professional contract with Notts only a few days prior to his debut for the County has been in stunning form this summer.

In July alone he struck notable scores for Cornwall (112 vs. Wales Minor Counties) then enjoyed two outstanding 2nd XI matches for Notts, no doubt culminating with his contract.

Against Warwickshire, he struck 225* and 39*, then followed up with 100 and 78 against Glamorgan. During his three matches for the 2nd XI in July, he churned out 446 runs averaging 148.66.

The Cornish run machine will head to Australia after the Championship season's conclusion and link up with Cricket North West's Latrobe Cricket Club. He will be joined by Cardiff Met team-mate James Hendrickson who played in the West of England Premier League this season for Premier 2 club Potterne.
