Merrion sign Sydney Grade star Kerrod White - 23/01/16

Kerrod White

LEINSTER LEAGUE club Merrion have signed Bankstown and ACT Comets run machine Kerrod White for season 2016.

White (22) is a stand-out batsman on the Sydney Grade circuit, who was recently rewarded for his run scoring exploits with ACT Comets selection in Australia’s Futures League competition.

Earlier this season, White was named the Carlton Mid Sydney Grade Player of the Round after smashing 226 not out from only 249 balls with 26 fours and 4 sixes.

His stunning double was the highest score in the McDonald’s Sydney Grade Competition since former NSW and Australian batsman Phil Jaques struck 321 in February 2007.

It was also the third highest score for his club side Bankstown behind Sean Pope’s 287 (1993/94) and Dean Waugh’s 227* (1991/92).

White had impressed during his debut season for Bankstown in 2014/15 striking three first grade centuries (156, 106, 105) and a 93 amongst 726 runs at 48.40.

He had previously spent three seasons for Sutherland (2010/11-2012/13), where over 60 matches he churned out 1,366 runs at 26.27 alongside 60 wickets at 28.50, including a first grade season tally of 211 runs at 35.17 in 2011/12).

In the same season White starred for NSW at the Australian Under-19 Championships, topping the sides run charts with 244 runs at 61 including a highest score of 127*.

Over the next two seasons for Sutherland, he struggled to make a major impact due to a wrist injury that hampered his batting.

An unexpected complication during surgery almost ended his promising career. Fortunately, surgery revealed a benign tumour, rather than a carpel tunnel, much to White’s relief.

He returned to his beloved Lake Illawarra club in 2013/14, where he starred as a junior, spearheading the club to a first grade premiership with a stunning century against Thirroul.

He enjoyed a barnstorming summer striking well over 1,000 runs (920 at 76.67 in first grade) to include two scores of 196 among his five centuries. He also weighed in with 32 wickets at 13.31 across all formats for Lakes.

Seeking higher honours, White returned to Sydney Grade cricket for Bankstown in 2014/15 and has impressed, culminating with ACT Comets selection.

The opening batsman, who has also spent the past two years in the Sydney Thunder Big Bash Academy Squad, is looking to progress in the game and given his success to date, further representative honours are on the horizon.

In a view to continuing his development, the explosive batsman has signed to play in Ireland later this year for Leinster Cricket Union club Merrion.

The Dublin-based club, who finished third in the LCU and were Irish Senior Cup runners-up in 2015, will be hoping their star recruit will help them win titles in 2016.
