Midsomer Norton sign Old Parks' star Shaiiesh - 10/03/16

Shailesh Bhondekar-2

MIDSOMER NORTON have snapped up the services of former Indian first-class all-rounder Shailesh Bhondekar.

Bhondekar (24) is an exceptionally talented quick bowling all-rounder currently playing in South Africa for Johannesburg-based club Old Parktonians.

A former Indian first-class player, who played a solitary match in each format back in 2010-11, has starred for Old Parks in the Gauteng Cricket Association this summer.

In what has been his maiden season for the club, the Indian all-rounder has scored three half-centuries amongst 259 runs at 43.17. He has taken 17 wickets at 15.18 with a best match-haul of 6-21.

Hailing from Vidharbha, with whom he represented through the age-groups and at senior level, Bhondekar has excelled for numerous sides in recent years, to include Tata Power (in Mumbai) and Advocate XI (in Nagpur’s Gusder League).

He attended both the India Under-19 and Under-22 national camps and was selected in the “probable” players in both squads. He was also a net bowler for Indian Premier League side Rajasthan Royals.

In search of experience to progress his game, Bhondekar has spent this summer in South Africa and has clearly impressed.

He is set to return to India shortly, before another overseas trip, this time for his maiden season’s league cricket in the UK.

Bhondekar has signed to play as the overseas amateur for West of England Premier League club Midsomer Norton, who are hoping their new Indian star will help guide them to the Bristol and North Somerset Division title in 2016.
