New Brighton have signed Canterbury batsman Leo Carter for their 2019 Liverpool League campaign.

Carter (24) is quite the prospect coming through the Canterbury ranks in New Zealand. Since his List A debut in December 2014, the left-handed batsman has played 65 domestic matches for Canterbury and has notched up 1,587 runs at 21.74 across the three formats.

Holder of a British Passport, Carter represented Canterbury through the age-groups and played 13 matches for the New Zealand Under-19s, to include an ICC Under-19 World Cup in the UAE in February 2014.

Thereafter, he swiftly moved into Canterbury’s senior set-up and made his debut later that year in the Ford Trophy. Whilst Carter hasn’t set white ball cricket alight since, he has become an integral member of Canterbury’s Plunket Shield side.

Following his maiden season in 2014/15 (215 runs at 35.83), he racked up an impressive 542 runs at 28.52 in 2015/16, to including a century (101). He failed to replicate this success in 2017/18 (208 runs at 16), but returned with a vengeance in 2018/19, hitting 279 runs at 39.85.

The talented batsman, who bowls useful off-spin, is now set to return to Northern shores in 2019 having recently signed with Liverpool Competition's New Brighton, following prior UK stints with Horton House (2014) and Twickenham (2015).
