OBW re-sign former Aussie U19s Tom Leaver - 09/02/15

Thomas LeaverWEPL club Old Bristolians Westbury have re-signed former Australian Under-19 batsman Tom Leaver for 2015.

Leaver (20) is a prodigious talent who represented the Australian Under-19s in three matches during the Top End Under-19 Series in June/July 2013. He had two starts against New Zealand (31) and India (23) to average 18.33 over 3 innings.

Leaver’s elevation to national honours was courtesy of his exploits during the Australian Under-19 Championships in January 2013. The right-hand opening batsman finished 7th on the tournament run-charts hitting 221 runs at 44.20 including notable scores against Northern Territory (66), ACT (43) and Queensland (92).

He earned a Western Australia Under-23s debut shortly thereafter, hitting 24 against Victoria in Australia’s Futures League competition, but suffered a dip in form during the most recent Under-19 National Championships, averaging 7.66 in December 2013, but remains a prospect for the future.

Leaver has also played district cricket alongside State players Hilton Cartwright and Michael Beer for South Perth in the WACA competition throughout his career. He has featured across the top two grades, since his first grade debut in February 2012.

He had previously worked his way through the juniors, where he starred in the McKenzie Shield Under-14s and Watkins Shield (District Under-15s), striking centuries three centuries (108, 103 and 124) between the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons. He averaged 21.80 in first grade in 2012/13 and now boasts over 4,500 runs for South Perth averaging a tick over 27.

The talented batsman struck 552 runs at 39.42 for Old Bristolians Westbury in the Bristol and Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League (WEPL) last summer and has subsequently re-signed in 2015.
