OE return for the prolific Johann Smit - 24/10/14

Johann Smit 2 JOHANN SMIT will return to Old Elizabethans in 2015 after a prolific maiden stint for the club last summer.

Smit (20) racked up 759 runs at 54.21 to finish second on the Birmingham and District Premier League (Division 2) run charts - a tally that included a breath-taking highest score of 150*.

It was the talented batsman's first season abroad, following his first-class debut for Eastern Province during the 2013/14 season.

A schoolboy prodigy, Smit has churned out runs at every level, to include a record-breaking school tally of 4,000 plus runs for Centurian High School.

He has represented Northerns at Under-17 level, top scoring in the CSA Under-17 tournament with 298 runs and was subsequently chosen to represent the South African Under-17s.

He once again topped the run charts for Northerns Under-19s (204 at 40.80) and scored the first century of the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week (100*) against Eastern Province.

His success culminated with a bursary from NMMU (University) and, unsurprisingly he starred subsequently earning a place in the Warriors Under-23 squad, then inclusion to the Eastern Province Academy.

After some promising performances for the Emerging Players team, he was called up to the senior squad and made his first-class and Twenty20 debut’s for Eastern Province against Boland and KwaZulu-Natal Inland respectively in March 2014.

Smit enjoyed a prolific maiden season with Old Elizabethan's and he's subsequently re-signed to help their promotion push in 2015.
