PENRITH have signed Sri Lankan star Bhanuka Rajapaksa for their 2017 Northern Premier Cricket League campaign.

In April 2011, he made his first-class debut for Sinhalese Sports club, having already made his List-A (November 2009) and T20 (March 2009) debut’s previously.

He has since forged an excellent domestic career, with over 4,500 runs across the three formats with 5 centuries, alongside 50 wickets at 25.24 with his brisk medium-pace.

Rajapaksa, who now plays for Chilaw Marians and has represented Barisal Blazers in Bangladesh’s NCL T20 tournament, has also played on Northern shores.

He toured England with Sri Lanka A in July 2016 and produced some impressive performances during his five outings. Most notably, his 48* from 28 balls to chase down Derbyshire’s 281 inside 33 overs before taking figures of 2-34 including the wickets of Liam Livingstone and Sam Billings against the England Lions.

In his penultimate game on tour against Pakistan A, Rajapaksa struck a fine 56, top scoring for Sri Lanka in the first innings.
