PJ Moor earns national call up - 17/11/14

PJ Moor CRICX star PJ Moor has earned a call up to the Zimbabwe squad for their ODI series against Bangladesh.

The 23 year-old former Zimbabwe Under-19 captain has impressed in his country’s domestic league for Mashonaland Eagles and Midwest Rhinos.

Moor has struck 991 runs at 26.07 over his 22 first-class matches to date, but it was his recent century for the Zimbabwe President's XI that ultimately secured selection.

Playing against the Chairman's XI, under the captaincy of Hamilton Masakadza in a side comprising national stars Brendan Taylor and Elton Chigumbura, Moor struck 132 from 156 balls, an innings that included 12 fours and 4 sixes.

Moor will be hoping to line-up against the Bangladeshi's to fulfil his life-long dream of representing Zimbabwe at international level.

He was once linked with an international career for Ireland following three seasons in the NCU and LCU, but a series of modest performances saw him never threaten to break-through to representative honours.

Speaking to the Zimbabwe Daily News, Moor said: “My grandmother was from Ireland, maybe that’s why people thought that (I would play for Ireland) but that was never my goal. I have always wanted play for Zimbabwe ever since I was a little boy.”

“I’m just grateful the coach has given me a chance. I’m hoping I can repay it by scoring runs.”
