Fordhouses pen prolific Pretorius - 02/02/16

Ruhan Pretorius-Sep-2015

FORDHOUSES have signed sought after professional Ruhan Pretorious for their Birmingham League campaign.

Pretorius (24) is a genuine all-rounder who opens the bowling and bats middle-order for KwaZulu-Natal Inland in his native South Africa.

During his most recent UK stint, Pretorius helped guide Waringstown to an NCU league and Irish cup double courtesy of 705 runs at 64.09 and 23 wickets at 23.26.

His innings against 2013 cup winners Clontarf hit the headlines courtesy of his 49-ball unbeaten 101 and his 6 sixes in an over. His second fifty came in just 14 balls.

The trend has continued on his return to South Africa this summer where, on debut for new club UKZN Varsity, he struck a record-breaking 209 not out.

Pretorius, who averages 23.81 and 34.38 in first-class and List-A respectively with the bat, has previously excelled for CBC Old Boys in Pretoria's Premier League.

A former South African Under-19 talent squad member, Pretorius played age-group cricket for Northerns and, after several prolific club seasons, was rewarded with a first-class debut for KwaZulu-Natal Inland in October 2012.

He impressed throughout his maiden season, finishing with 32 wickets at 23.25 including a best bowling of 7-26 (and match figures of 12-76) whilst also averaging 23 and 32.66 with the bat in first-class and list-A respectively.

Another productive 2013/14 season followed with a further 424 runs at 28.26 and 31 wickets at 23.41 including best bowling figures of 8-31. Whilst he failed to replicate these returns in 2014/15, he certainly returned to form for his fourth UK stint with Waringstown last summer.

Pretorius boasts impressive figures at domestic level for KwaZulu-Natal and is pushing for Franchise honours.

He has clearly been a brilliant performer abroad for Eckington (2012), Tynemouth (2013-14) and Waringstown (2015) over the past four years.

The seam bowling all-rounder is now eager to impress for Fordhouses in their promotion push for 2016.
