Prolific Hayes joins Thongsbridge - 27/01/15

Jamie HayesTHONGSBRIDGE have signed last summer's WEPL leading run-scorer Jamie Hayes for their 2015 season.

Hayes (22) is a kiwi batting all-rounder who set the WEPL (West of England Premier League) alight last summer. Playing for Potterne, as their 2nd XI overseas player in the Glos/Wilts division, Hayes plundered 1,126 runs averaging a quite remarkable 225.20 all with a strike-rate of 138.71. He also weighed in with 18 wickets with his useful medium-pace at 13.38 for good measure.

After a slow start to the season with a duck on 2nd XI debut followed by a 15, he went on a miraculous run spree with scores of 115*, 75, 74*, 165*, 24*, 124, 208*, 141*, 68* and 117*, before finishing the summer as he started, with another duck. During his 10 innings' on the bounce, he churned out 1,111 runs included 6 centuries, 3 fifties and was only dismissed twice to average an astonishing 555.50.

Hayes finished the summer with 504 runs more than the division's next leading run-scorer. He not only topped the division run aggregates, but also the entire leagues with his batting exploits. It was quite simply a remarkable season from the young kiwi, who whilst clearly playing at a level below his ability, still had the drive and determination to score the volume of runs that he acheived.

Hayes, who plays a combination of Premier and Premier Reserves for Cornwall Cricket Club in Auckland is keen to showcase his talent in the Drakes Huddersfield League this summer.
