Record-breaker targets Surrey Championship success - 29/10/16

JP van Aswegen - Batting

WALTON-ON-THAMES have signed explosive South African batsman JP van Aswegen for their 2017 season.

Van Aswegen (23) is a batting all-rounder who etched his name into the record books after his stunning innings of 248 for Mold Cricket Club in the North Wales ECB Premier League in 2014.

It was van his second season with Mold, following a strong maiden stint in 2013. He had, the previous season, played in the West of England Premier League (Bristol and North Somerset Division).

He then returned for his last stint in 2015 for Dalton in the strong North Lancs and Cumbria Cricket League.

A product of King Edward VII School in Johannesburg, one of South Africa’s most prestigious cricketing schools, van Aswegen earned his colours for the school and was “Cricketer of the Year” in 2011/12.

In January 2012, van Aswegen was one of 25 attendees to the TUKS High Performance Centre in Pretoria, before heading abroad in April to play league cricket. He has since played in the Gauteng Premier League for Caxton Khosa.

Van Aswegan is actively pushing towards first-class cricket and, having not featured in UK league cricket last season, is now joining Walton-on-Thames in Division 1 of the Surrey Championship.
