Sams slams record-breaking 261* - 28/07/14

Anthony Sams CANNOCK'S overseas superstar Anthony Sams jetted off to Rome this morning after producing a record-breaking 261* on Saturday.

The Australian keeper/batsman, who plays for the Randwick-Petersham club in Sydney bludgeoned his boundary-laden double century from only 118 balls - a strike rate of 221.19.

His innings enabled table topping Cannock to declare their innings after 39.4 overs with a mammouth 389 on the board.

What happened next was also quite incredible, as Old Wulfrunians Tettenhall were bowled out for 24 in 10.5 overs with Edward Fleet (5.5-2-8-6) and Qamar Abbas (5-3-9-4) sharing the spoils.

The match sent the scorers running for league handbooks and, it quickly became apparent Cannock had broken the largest winning margin by some distance with their 366-run victory.

Sams also broke the club and Staffs Club's League record for the highest ever individual score and, he's on course to break the league run-scoring record having racked up his 1,000th run on Saturday averaging 115.81.

The CricX star has enjoyed a breath-taking season for Cannock - 1,333 runs at 95.21 across all formats including 5 centuries. He comfortably tops the Staffs Premier Division run charts with 1,000 runs - 486 runs ahead of second-placed Roger Fields from Beacon.

His efforts have helped Cannock maintain their unbeaten run this summer and they remain firm favourites for promotion back to the Birmingham and District League in 2015.
