Scarborough sign Zimbabwe U19 star - 17/03/16

Richard Ngarava

SCARBOROUGH have signed young Zimbabwean quick Richard Ngarava ahead of their 2016 campaign.

Ngarava (18) is a tall, left-arm quick bowler who led Zimbabwe’s bowling attack during the recent ICC Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh.

He was one of Zimbabwe’s star performers, to include Man-of-the-Match figures of 9-2-10-4 during their historic 9th Place Play-off Semi-Final win over South Africa. Ngarava was the key instigator in South Africa’s demise, reducing one of the tournament favourites to 12-4, then 91 all out.

The left-armer headed to the World Cup as one of Zimbabwe’s best prospects and, courtesy of his exploits, his stocks continue to rise. The 18-year-old, who was educated at Churchill High School in Harare, earned his spot in Zimbabwe’s World Cup squad on the back of his performances for the Mashonaland Eagles age-groups and previously the Zimbabwe Under-17s, who featured in the CSA Provincial Under-17 Tournament.

Ngarava is a genuine quick, who was clocked into the 130s (kph) during the recent World Cup. A tall, hit-the-deck style bowler, he is regarded as a serious prospect for Zimbabwe cricket.

The Takashinga Cricket Club star appears destined for first-class cricket and in a view to breaking into the professional game, is due to set sail for England to play in the ECB Yorkshire Premier League North for Scarborough Cricket Club for season 2016.
