Shepley sign Wanneroo gloveman Christian Smith - 12/01/15

Christian Smith RampSHEPLEY have signed Western Australian keeper/bat Christian Smith for their Drakes League campaigin in 2015.

Smith (21) is a bright prospect who's exploits in the WACA grade competition have culminated with inclusion to both the Western Australian 2nd XI ("Under-23's") and also a Western Australia XI side that played in the UAE in September 2014.

The former WA Under-19's wicket-keeper plays his club cricket for Wanneroo District – the home of Mike Hussey and Mitchell Johnson.

Smith enjoyed a break-through season in first grade last summer striking 739 runs at 49.27, including a string of notable scores including 70, 21, 57, 58, two innings of 43 (one of which against former Australian quick Pat Cummins) then two centures against Joondalup (145) and Midland-Guildford (104) respectively. He also struck a fine 58 for WDCC in their Grand Final win over Claremont-Nedlands.

He has five centuries to his name for Wanneroo, over 4,500 runs and an average approaching 30. Equally at home in the field as with the gloves, Smith also boasts over 200 dismissals, to include catches, stumpings and run-outs.

In 2013, Smith played his maiden stint abroad for Birmingham and District Premier League side Milford Hall. He enjoyed a successful season racking up 1,196 runs across 34 games for the club averaging 39.87 with three centures.

Smith is pushing for State honours and is hoping his summer with title chasing Shepley will be a fruitful one.
