Solway signs for Old Wilsonians - 26/02/16

Dean Solway

OLD WILSONIANS have signed Queanbeyan run machine Dean Solway following their 2015 Kent Cricket League promotion.

Solway (23) is playing grade and representative cricket for Queanbeyan and the ACT Comets respectively and boasts a highly decorated career to date.

At grade level, he has played 164 matches for Queanbeyan, scoring 3,988 runs at 28.69. For the Comets, he has been an integral figure since 2011, after scoring 79 and 87 on debut against South Australia.

Thereafter, he was rewarded with selection for the Cricket Australia Chairman’s XI match against India and secured a 2-year contract with the South Australian Redbacks’ Emerging Players squad.

Solway followed up in 2011/12 with his Futures League debut for the Comets, churning out 166*, followed-by another half-century (55) in the second innings against Queensland.

During this season, he also starred for ACT during the first of his two Under-19 National Championships (236 runs at 39.33).

In 2012/13 the trend continued as Solway rattled off another 308 runs at 51.33 for the Comets in the Futures League competition, whilst also plying his trade for Prospect District in SACA grade cricket.

He also featured for the Chairman’s XI again, this time against the touring Sri Lankans.

He returned to his beloved Queanbeyan club in 2013/14 and his 837 runs at 31 culminated with the 1st grade batting aggregate award. Solway also scored a further 213 runs at 26.62 for the Comets.

Last summer, unsurprisingly Solway’s run spree continued, hitting 488 runs at 40.67 in ACT Premier Cricket and he’s replicating these exploits again in the current 2015/16 season with 601 runs at 40.07 across grade cricket.

He will make his debut in the UK for recently promoted Old Wilsonians who hope to continue their form in Division 2 of the Kent Cricket League.
