St Albans snap up Tuskers All-Rounder - 02/04/16

Mbekezeli Mabuza

ST ALBANS have signed former Zimbabwe A, now Tuskers star Mbekezeli Mabuza for their Herts campaign.

Mabuza (31) is an experienced player/coach playing for the Matabeleland Tuskers Franchise in Zimbabwean domestic cricket.

Over a career spanning 12 seasons, dating back to his first-class debut in 2013/14, Mabuza has scored 1,534 runs at 17.84 alongside 41 wickets at 31.34 with his off-spin.

The all-rounder returned to play for Malabeleand in 2015/16 following a 5 year absence from domestic cricket. He impressed in the Logan Cup, particularly with the ball, to include his maiden first-class 5-wicket haul (5-36).

During his prime, Mabuza represented Zimbabwe A and was the sides leading run-scorer on tour, to include matches against national sides Namibia, Canada and Ireland.

During his 5-year absence from first-class cricket, Mabuza plied his trade in South Africa, skippering Medal Paints Marks Park (2010-14), a team that included the likes of Imran Tahir and Gulam Bodi. He was one of the stand-out performers, guiding his side to promotion to the Gauteng Premier League in Johannesburg.

Alongside his playing exploits, Mabuza is a highly qualified and experienced coach, who is the current Director of Cricket at Petra High School in Bulawayo, following his stint with South African School Saint Stithians, where he was voted junior coach of the year.

Mabuza is now looking to progress in the game, but is keen to explore the coaching pathway. He has recently signed to play for Hertfordshire League club St Albans as overseas amateur for their 2016 season, before returning to his playing and coaching commitments in Zimbabwe in October.
