Stevenage sign swashbuckling South African Neville Talbot - 11/02/15

Neville TalbotSTEVENAGE have signed South African run machine Neville Talbot ahead of their Hertfordshire League campaign.

Talbot (25) is a UK Ancestry holding South African who hit the headlines in league cricket in 2011 courtesy of finishing in 14th spot on the play-cricket league run-charts with 1,522 runs at 76.1, including 5 centuries.

More importantly, his 844 runs at 76.73 topped the West of England Premier League (Gloucester Division) run charts and helped his club Painswick to promotion.

He produced two breath-taking innings that deserve mention - a boundary-laden 189*(13x6s) then a quite sensational 77-ball 195 (16x6s) in the final match of the league season.

This was the tall batting all-rounder's second stint in the UK, having previously spent the 2008 season in the Kent Premier League with Gore Court. He finished inside the top ten run-scorers in the league hitting 501 runs at 35.79.

In 2012, he signed for Liverpool Premier League side Ormskirk, but unfortunately sustained a season-ending leg injury only 4 games in. He subsequently underwent knee surgery then returned to play a season in the Nottinghamshire Premier League for Cuckney with further success (475 runs at 43.18 including notable scores of 100 from 70 balls, 124 from 65 and 62* from 33).

Last season, he played in the strong Birmingham League and once again performed well hitting 539 runs at 35.93 alongside 14 wickets at 32.44.

Seeking pastures new, London-based Talbot has signed for the Saracens Hertfordshire League club for the 2015 season.
