Stourport snap up Gauteng's Kevin Renecke - 05/02/15

Kevin ReneckeSTOURPORT have signed Gauteng age-group batsman Kevin Renecke for their Worcestershire League campaign.

Renecke (19) is a talented opening batsman who has been earmarked for first-class cricket in future having already starred for Gauteng through the age-groups.

He hit the headlines during a 50-over match against Mpumalanga in the CSA Under-15 week in 2010, hitting an unbeaten 153* for the Gauteng Under-15A team. The following year, whilst still only 15, he played in the CSA Under-17 week for Gauteng.

He played for the Under-17A side for a second season last year (2012), finishing second on the Gauteng run averages (35.50) and was subsequently invited to attend the CSA Under-17 Talent Camp.

Whilst he is recognized as a strong opening batsman at provincial level, he is also a useful left-arm chinamen bowler and has been extensively used in this capacity by Old Edwardian Cricket Club who play in the Gauteng Premier League.

Renecke though, considers himself as a batsman who bowls, albeit he struggled with the latter during his opening stint abroad in 2014.

Playing for Brooklands in the Cheshire County League Division 1, he only bowled 14 overs, taking a solitary wicket. That said, he fared significantly better with the bat scoring 513 runs at 30.17.

However, his runs tailed off towards the end of the season after a brilliant start, striking three successive fifties to start the summer, then a brilliant century (138) against Widnes to almost single-handedly chase down 280.

Renecke is keen to impress on his return to Northern shores, as he pushes towards first-class honours.
