Thame Town sign South African quick - 20/04/16

Matthew MacDonald

THAME TOWN have signed promising pace bowling all-rounder Matthew Macdonald ahead of their HCPCL campaign.

Macdonald (22) is a highly talented all-rounder playing first team cricket in Gauteng for Old Edwardians Cricket Club. He has played for the club since 2008 – a club than can boast the likes of Graeme Smith, Neil McKenzie and Steven Cook as part of their alumni.

Standing 6’4”, MacDonald is regarded as a genuine quick by former Lions/Gauteng player Enoch Nkwe, and “match winner” by Ryan Cook, the talented all-rounder is eager to progress in the game and push for higher honours.

He represented the prestigious St Peter’s College, where he opened batting and bowling at 1st XI level. He has also played for the Gauteng Under-17B side and has trained with the Under-19 and 23 squads in recent years.

Last season for Old Edwardians, he enjoyed a productive season scoring 687 runs at 45.80 and took 38 wickets at 10.97 across all formats, in the top two sides.

MacDonald has also enjoyed three summers in England, initially for Hertfordshire club Chipperfield Clarendon before stints with Dumbleton (West of England Premier League) and Astwood Bank (Birmingham League) in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

The talented all-rounder is now sent for another stint, this time with Thame Town in the strong Home Counties Premier Cricket League in 2016.
