TROON have secured the services of Mildura Settlers skipper Mitchell Smith for their upcoming Cornwall League campaign.

Smith (23) is a talented seam bowling all-rounder who currently skippers Mildura Settlers Cricket Club in the strong Sunraysia Cricket Association (SCA) in North West Victoria.

In 2014/15, he took the role of captain from former South Australia, Leicestershire, Yorkshire, Victoria and Netherlands all-rounder Mark Cleary, who continues to play for the club.

Smith, who opens the bowling and bats middle-lower order, started his senior cricket career in the SCA for Mildura Settlers back in 2010/11. His 14 wickets at 15.86 helped the club to win the first division premiership.

The following season (2011/12), Smith moved into the Victorian Premier Cricket ranks with Richmond. Starting in the 4th XI, he swiftly moved up the grades to play 2nd XI.

In his maiden season he was 4th grades best bowler, taking 19 wickets at 15.8 in a season haul of 27 wickets. In 2012/13, he played in the 2s and 3s claiming 21 wickets at 25.90.

He returned to his home club Mildura Settlers for season 2013/14 and helped the club to the semi-finals courtesy of 26 wickets at 14.19 alongside 137 runs at 22.83.

He took over the captaincy the following season and lead the club to the first division premiership with 35 wickets at 14.29 alongside 159 runs at 17.67.

He continues to impress in the current 2015/16 season, as Settlers sit top of the SCA table. Over the past two seasons, Smith has gained selection for the SCA team of the year.

The talented all-rounder is now set to head abroad in 2016 to play for Troon in their Cornwall League campaign this summer.

He is a player that comes highly recommended as not only a strong cricketer, but a fantastic bloke and leader around the club. He is keen to make a big impact in Cornwall for the upcoming season. .
