Urmston sign Central Stags prospect Joey O'Connor - 30/01/15

Joseph OConnorURMSTON are looking to avenge their relegation last summer with the signing of towering quick Joseph O'Connor.

The 23-year-old speedster is an exciting all-round prospect coming through the Nelson and Central Districts ranks in New Zealand.

Standing 6’5”, O’Connor is a quick bowler, hard-hitting middle-order batsman and a player destined for State honours.

He has played the last three National Provincial A tournaments for CD and has been 12th man for the Central Stags in a four-day match against Wellington during the 2011/12 season.

O’Connor’s rise to provincial colours has been on the back of dominant performances for his club-side Wanderers in the Nelson Senior Competition.

Last summer, he was one of the competition’s stand-out all-rounder’s – excelling particularly with the bat, with scores of 96* and 87 with averages of 64 and 42 in the two and one-day competitions respectively.

He has also starred in the Chapple Cup for Nelson, in a side flooded with State players and is a player highly regarded in the province.

O’Connor is quite the talent who is hoping his season in the Cheshire League will push him towards State honours upon his return.
