West Herts sign Western Province quick - 18/02/15

Simphiwe YibaWEST HERTS have signed Western Province quick Simphiwe Yiba for their 2015 Saracens Hertfordshire League campaign.

Yiba (22) is a promising quick bowler who recently enjoyed a successful first-class debut, taking 5 wickets including figures of 4-35 for Western Province against Griqualand West.

The right-arm speedster has represented Eastern Province through the age-groups (U13s, U17s, U19s) to include two Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Weeks (2009, 2010).

He has featured strongly for EP, to include averaging 18.16 during the CSA Under-19 Competition, in a side including fellow CricX (and South African A) stars David White and Colin Ackermann.

He has represented the Chevrolet Warriors, during the Under-19 Cubs Week and was selected for the South African Under-19 camp at the High Performance Centre in 2011.

Yiba attended the Eastern Province Academy over the next two years, before moving to Cape Town to join the Western Province Academy, where he has since represented the Cobras Colts and is a member of the Western Province Cricket Club.

He has enjoyed success for WPCC over the past two seasons, including 5-wicket hauls against Claremont (5-20) and Victoria (5-15).

Yiba has been pushing first-class inclusion for Western Province and, courtesy of his exploits at club and age-group representative level, has now done so.

West Herts will be hoping their new quick bowling recruit will make a big impact in their Championship campaign this coming season.
