Ketan Patel (22) is a promising left-arm spin bowling all-rounder playing predominantly Premier Reserves in Auckland for Auckland University. In 2015/16 he took 30 wickets at 14.87, all with an economy of 2.41 runs per over, then backed up with 346 runs at 28.83 with the bat in 2016/17 to evidence his all-round status.

Patel only converted to spin three seasons ago following a stress fracture to his lower back. He was previously a quick who had featured for the AUCC Premier side. Since his transition, Patel has impressed, taking 25 wickets at 23.48 during his first full season applying his new art (2014/15) and courtesy of his performances in the Reserves, he’s pushing for a Premier return.

Whilst known for his left-arm spin, Patel has developed his batting to such an extent in recent years, that he's now deemed a genuine all-rounder, who has averaged 20.88 (2014/15), 14.50 (2015/16) and 28.83 (2016/17) over the past few seasons.

Clearly a talented cricketer, Patel is also heavily involved with coaching. An accredited NZC level 2 (UKCC 3 equivalent) coach, he acts as the head coach for AUCC’s Senior Premier Woman’s, Winter Academy, Glendowie High School 1st XI and the East District Cricket Association Year 7’s.

He is a budding professional coach who is looking to develop his skills and progress in a coaching capacity in future. Patel spent a successful season in Scotland, playing for Hillhead in the WDCU (Western District Cricket Union) in 2016. He returned last year, where he dominated the Cherwell League for Cublington, with bat (746 runs at 57.38) and ball (40 wickets at 13.43).

Patel is currently wintering in Cublington and is eager to find an employment sponsor, so he can remain in the UK once his Youth Mobility Visa expires in April 2018. If he's able to secure an extended visa, he is then keen to remain in the UK for yet another season next year.
