Gareth Severin is a promising wicketkeeper batter making his way through the Wellington ranks in New Zealand.
He has represented the nation’s capital at Under-17 (Jan 2016-Jan 2017), Under-19 (Oct 2015-Dec 2018), and Provincial ‘A’ (Jan 2018-present).
Courtesy of a stellar 2018/19 New Zealand Under-19 Tournament, where he finished top of Wellington’s run-charts, and second overall (370 runs at 46.25), he was rewarded with New Zealand Development team selection.
A destructive top-order batter, Severin has excelled in Wellington club cricket in recent years, culminating with provincial honours.
Playing for Johnsonville, he has been a stand-out performer. In 2019/20, he scored 572 runs at 35.75 across all formats, then backed up with 532 runs at 26.60 (2020/21) which included 142 runs at 71 with a highest score of 128*, all with a strike rate of 184.42 in the T20 competition (Wellington Premier League).
He was Johnsonville’s leading run-scorer in 2019/20 and concluded the 2020/21 season with a maiden Provincial A century (100 from 179 balls) against a strong Northern Districts attack including State bowlers Brett Randell, Freddy Walker (ND), and Jake Gibson (Otago).
Severin then headed to the UK to play his maiden UK stint in 2022. What a season it was for the young kiwi, belting 1,175 runs at 43.52 to help Hayes to the 2022 Kent Premier League title.
Such was his, and the club's success, Hayes has been swift to re-sign their young Kiwi star for their 2023 Kent League campaign.
