Jason Underwood (28) is an explosive batsman who, through 2-years permanent residency, will qualify as a "local" cricketer in UK league cricket next summer (check with your league to confirm, though). He is currently living in North Wales, following two barnstorming stints with Pwllheli (2017-18) but is now seeking pastures new for the 2019 season.

The Ancestry-holding South African has absolutely dominated the North Wales League. In 2017, he guided his Pwllheli to promotion, courtesy of his exploits in Division 1. He topped the run charts (842 runs at 76.55), slamming two big hundreds, including his boundary-laden 89-ball 158* v Carmel and Districts. He also picked up 18 wickets at 14.06 with his useful leg-breaks, to evidence his all-round skills.

Despite the step up in standard, the trend continued in 2018. Playing in the ECB Premier Division, Underwood finished top of the batting averages, hitting another 2 centuries enroute to 776 runs at 64.67 alongside 29 wickets at 24.48. Without doubt, his highlight was his undefeated 199 from 142 balls against Connah's Quay - an innings that included 12 maximums. His next innings wasn't bad either, yet another hundred, this time 112* from 105 balls against St Asaph. If it wasn't for his final two digs of the season (two noughts), Underwood would have averaged 77.60 in Premier cricket in 2018. It was yet another barnstorming season from Underwood, who also impressed during our annual CricX Day in 2017.

Prior to heading abroad, Underwood was a key performer and skipper of Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club, who play in Premier B of the Western Province Cricket Association in Cape Town. He took over the reins in 2013/14 and has been the club’s best player, winning “Players Player of the Year” in 2013/14 (750 runs at 41), “Club Player of the Year” in 2014/15 (802 runs at 39) and “Top Batsman” in 2015/16 (784 runs at 43) and the trend continued in 2016/17 with 501 runs at 39.

Underwood has been a prolific run-scorer for Northerns Goodwood, both prior to and during his tenure as captain. Before donning the leadership, he topped the WPCA T20 run aggregates in 2012/13. At the helm, the runs have continued to flow and Underwood has guided his side to the Premier B Two-Day and T20 titles in 2014/15 (and runners-up in the longer format).

Now UK-based, Underwood is seeking an opportunity to showcase his skills once again in 2019. The former Wynberg Boys’ star represents a fantastic signing for any UK league club in 2019.
