Sadaf Mehdi (24) is a genuine quick playing for the star-studded WAPDA side in Pakistan’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He moved from United Bank Limited, with whom he spent three seasons, for the 2018/19 summer and is making waves in a side flooded with international players.

To date, he has played 2 first-class matches this season (2-29, 21, 2-43 v ZTBL and 43, 3-100 v Sui Southern Gas), in an attack that features the likes of Wahab Riaz, Zulfiqar Babar, Ehsan Adil, Mohammad Asif and the towering Mohammad Irfan. Other stars in the WAPDA side include Kamran Akmal, Salman Butt and CricX star Mohammad Saad, so as you can appreciate, competition for places is fierce and the fact Mehdi has featured in 2 first-class and 6 List A matches, to date, is testament to not only his ability, but his reputation amongst his peers.

In his professional career, which dates back to his first-class and List A debuts in October 2013, Mehdi has played neigh on 50 matches across the three formats and is approaching 90 wickets with 3 five wicket hauls. He’s been a revelation in List A cricket, taking 40 wickets at 22.72 with an incredible strike-rate of 22.90 over 23 matches.

He is a bowler with genuine pace and ability to move the ball sharply off the seam (as can be seen by the video on this profile). Mehdi is a talented cricketer – not only with the ball, but with bat in hand. He has developed into a handy lower-middle order batsman, hitting notable scores already this summer for WAPDA.

He also produced some useful knocks, including a highest score of 53, whilst playing for Frenford in Division 1 of the Essex League last summer (2018). He was a stand-out with the ball, taking 23 wickets at 24.39, but from all accounts if slips could catch, well, you know the drill.

Mehdi is a player with a future, who is now eager to return to Northern shores, equipped with his UKCC level 2 to hand. A player with plenty of potential and one that has all the tools to excel on his return to the UK in 2019.
