Nijat Masood (19) is an exciting pace bowling all-rounder who represented Afghanistan Under-19s (2015/16) and made a great impression in both first-class and List A cricket last summer.

A right-arm seamer and hard-hitting middle-order batsman, Masood played 12 first-class matches for Band-e-Amir Region in the respective Ahmad Shah Abdali and Alokzay Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day tournaments (2017/18). He took 37 wickets at 34.24 with 2 five wicket hauls (BB. 6-55) alongside 237 runs at 19.75 (HS 71).

Masood was then the absolute stand-out in List A cricket – taking 5-19 on debut against Amo Region and finishing as the leading wicket-taker in the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament with 13 wickets at 20.61 (ahead of global T20 spin king, Qais Ahmad, with 8 wickets at 2625).

Courtesy of his success, Masood was picked up to play in the inaugural APL (Afghanistan Premier League) in October 2018. He only played a solitary match for Kabul Zwanan alongside the likes of Luke Ronchie, Rashid Khan, Wayne Parnell, Colin Ingram and Laurie Evans, but the experience will stand him in good stead for the future.

The talented youngster is looking to progress in the game and is eager to spend a season playing UK league cricket in 2019 for the experience. A player that comes highly recommended – an exciting prospect for any club in 2019.
