He moved from the Army Sports Club ahead of the 2024/25 season, having played alongside the likes of national stars including the likes of Suekkuge Prasanna, Tharindu Kaushal, Tissara Perera, Asela Gunaratne, and Dinesh Chandimal.

During his tenure with the Army, dating back to his List A debut in December 2019, they were one of the form sides in Sri Lankan domestic cricket. Hettiarchchi was integral to their success, helping them to the Premier League Tournament (Tier A) Super Eights (2019/20), Twenty20 Final (2020/21), and three successive Limited Overs Semi-Finals (2019/20, 20/21, 21/22).

The all-rounder made an immediate impact on Sri Lankan domestic cricket in 2019/20, finishing as the Limited Overs Tournament’s third-leading wicket-taker (13 wickets at 16.53) for Colombo Cricket Club. He backed up with a strong red ball 2020/21 season (164 runs at 23.42 and 12 wickets), and T20 campaign (10 wickets at 14.30). His exploits have culminated with National Super League selection for Galle District in recent years.

A brisk, and skilful pacer, who is known as a hard-hitting batter in the lower-middle order, Hettiarchchi has long been regarded as a player with national potential. He excelled in Sri Lanka’s Under-19 (Division 1) Two Day Tournament taking 84 wickets at 18.61 alongside 1,033 runs at 25.20 with two centuries, before breaking into Senior cricket.

Hettiarchchi, who will play for Chilaw Marians across all formats this summer, will then head abroad in 2025 to play for Potterne in the Wiltshire League.
