Dileepa Jayalath

Dileepa Jayalath is a highly talented slow left-arm spinner from Sri Lanka.

Dileepa broke onto the Sri Lankan domestic scene with Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club during the 2022 Major Club Emerging 3-Day Tournament, where he impressed with career-best match figures of 10 wickets against Negombo. He finished the tournament as one of the leading wicket-takers with 23 wickets at an average of 22.04. His rise came as little surprise to those familiar with his journey, having previously topped Bloomfield’s wicket charts in the 2021 SLC Limited Overs Tournament and played a key role in provincial Under-19 and Under-23 squads.

To date, the Sri Lankan spinner has claimed 41 First-Class wickets at an average of 25.07, establishing himself as a consistent performer at domestic level.

Jayalath’s influence, however, extends well beyond Sri Lanka. He has enjoyed four highly successful seasons in some of the strongest leagues in the UK, claiming over 250 wickets at an outstanding average of 14.45. His UK journey began in 2022 with Orrell Red Triangle Cricket Club in the Liverpool & District Competition, widely regarded as one of the strongest Premier League competitions in the country. During that campaign alone, he claimed 83 wickets while also contributing useful runs with the bat.

Across the following three seasons in England, Dileepa demonstrated remarkable consistency, never taking fewer than 50 wickets in a season, underlining his effectiveness and reliability as a strike spinner.

Away from playing, Jayalath is also an ECB Core Coach (Level Two) and is keen to contribute within a club’s coaching structure, helping develop younger players and giving back to the game that has shaped his career.
