Roshan Lakmal is an accomplished all-rounder who has been a stand-out performer since his return to Sri Lankan domestic cricket in 2022.
Following a decade’s hiatus, much of which spent playing in Australia, Lakmal returned with a bang for Panadura, racking up 442 runs at 44.20 in his 10 Major League Tournament (first-class) fixtures, before a further 241 at 40.16 including a century the following season. A lean 2023/24 campaign followed, before a barnstorming 2024/25 season with new club Nugegoda Sports and Welfare. Lakmal struck 4 centuries, a highest score of 201* and 599 runs at 85.57 all in. He was subsequently offered a Sri Lankan Board contract for his exploits.
Due to the strength and depth of spin within the Panadura, and Nugegoda ranks, bowling opportunities have been limited, but Lakmal is a quality left-arm spinner evidenced by his prior success in both domestic and Australian club cricket. In 39 first-class matches (at the point of writing), Lakmal has bagged 3 five-wicket bags, a 10 wicket match haul, and 49 poles at 27.81, alongside 1,548 runs at 39.69 in his 50 first-class innings.
Following his first-class debut (2009), and three initial seasons in Sri Lankan domestic cricket, Lakmal headed for the first of his 6 seasons in Australia. He became a legend in the South East Cricket Association (Longmuir Shield) courtesy of his exploits for Mackie Cricket Club.
Having joined the club as predominantly a left-arm spinner in 2013/14, he would go on to excel in both facets scoring 2,178 runs at 32.51, alongside 145 wickets at 20.37. He enjoyed arguably his most prolific season (particularly with the bat) during what proved to be his final season in 2019/20 before COVID struck.
Lakmal has now resumed domestic cricket in Sri Lanka and is looking to build on his success to date.
Following his 2023/24 campaign, he embarked on a new venture, this time to play cricket in England. It's fair to say Lakmal excelled for North Devon hitting 1,423 runs at 79.06 alongside 59 wickets at 16.90 in both the Devon and North Devon League's, respectively.
Courtesy of his success, and North Devon's promotion and return to the ECB Premier League, Lakmal has re-signed for a second stint at Instow for the 2025 season.
