Avishka Tharindu is a sensational batting talent rising through the Sri Lankan ranks, widely regarded as a superstar in the making. He first made waves representing Sri Lanka in 14 Under-19 matches during the 2018/19 season.
Tharindu’s domestic breakthrough came in the Sri Lankan Emerging Players 3-Day Tournament (2021/22), where he amassed 478 runs at an astonishing average of 239, including two centuries, with a career-best 215.
In May 2022, he was selected for the Sri Lanka Development XI to tour England, where he impressed with a century (103* from 108 balls) against a strong Surrey side featuring Gus Atkinson, Tom Lawes, Brett Hutton, and Amir Virdi. Back home, he notched his maiden first-class hundred (103* from 214 balls) for Ragama Cricket Club against Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club in the Sri Lanka Major League Tournament, finishing the 2022/23 season with 682 runs at 35.89.
While his subsequent domestic seasons have been less dominant—159 runs at 31.80 (2023/24) and 261 runs at 21.75—Tharindu remains a standout prospect. He has earned Sri Lanka A selection (20-member squad vs Pakistan) and is viewed as a future international talent.
