A product of the renowned St Peter’s College, Colombo—alma mater of Sri Lankan internationals Russell Arnold and Kaushal Lokuarachchi—Dawatage has long been regarded as a player with significant potential.
He represented Sri Lanka U19 in both ODI and red-ball formats, including a tour of England in August 2022. Earlier that year, he made his List A debut for Ragama Cricket Club, before going on to make his First-Class debut shortly after. Lahiru also gained franchise experience in the Pakistan Junior League, representing the Hyderabad Hunters.
After a year away from the First-Class scene, Dawatage returned to Sri Lanka’s domestic structure with Panadura Sports Club, featuring throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
