Samantha Schutte is a rising seam-bowling talent in South African cricket, currently plying her trade for the DP World Lions Women’s team. A standout from a young age, she represented both the Lions and South Africa at age-group level, earning Lions U19 Player of the Year honours in 2017 and a place in the SA U19A squad. Her early promise was evident even earlier, when she donned national colours for the South Africa U21 indoor side at the 2015 Indoor Cricket World Cup.
After dominating for Jeppe High School for Girls and the Lions youth sides, Schutte made her professional debut for Gauteng Women in 2017/18. Since then, she has become a regular in the Lions setup, with 32 appearances across List A and T20 cricket. Her progress was recognised when she was named the Lions’ “Most Improved” player following the 2022/23 season, having produced consistent spells in the Women’s Super League and domestic competitions. In T20 cricket alone, she has 17 wickets at an impressive 21.76 from just 17 matches.
Although a serious shoulder injury sidelined her for the 2024/25 campaign, Schutte has made a strong recovery, joined a new team, and is determined to make the 2025/26 season a big one. Known for her ability to generate movement and control under pressure, she also has untapped potential with the bat, making her a genuine all-round threat in the making.
Ambitious and driven, Schutte is targeting her maiden overseas stint in 2026 — eager to test herself in new conditions, expand her game, and take another step toward her ultimate goal of representing South Africa at the highest level.
