Thilanga Udeshana is a Sri Lankan right-arm medium-fast bowler who has progressed steadily through the country’s elite pathway.
Beginning with a standout 50-wicket season in school cricket in 2015/16, which earned him selection for the Sri Lanka Under-19 national side in 2016, where he impressed against South Africa and claimed the wicket of current Test cricketer Wiaan Mulder.
He made his first-class, List A, and T20 debuts for Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club between 2017 and 2019 and has continued to develop as a reliable strike option in domestic cricket, taking 20 wickets during the 2022/23 First-Class season. In 2023/24, he further advanced to the National Super League, featuring in both four-day and one-day formats. He currently has 79 professional wickets o his name and is set for a big domestic season in Sri Lanka, with a view to heading to the UK with a strong season behind him. Whilst not noted with bat in hand at professional level, he is a capable ball striker who can clear the ropes, and is looking to working on his batting whilst overseas and contributing some significant runs from the middle/lower order.
Udeshana is a skilful seamer with the ability to shape the ball effectively, making him well suited to UK conditions, and he presents as a strong option for any club seeking a committed, strike bowler for the upcoming summer. It is envisaged Udeshana will be free for the whole UK summer.
