Karl Leathley is a wicket-keeper batter with experience as an opener and in the top four, currently playing for Helston Cricket Club and Cornwall County Cricket Club.
Leathley has represented Helston Cricket Club since the age of six, progressing through the youth ranks into the men's sides before establishing himself in the first team. Since breaking into the first XI, Karl has amassed 4,395 runs at an average of over 30, including 23 half-centuries and 5 centuries.
In the 2022/23 season, Karl spent a year playing grade cricket in Australia for North Canberra and Gungahlin Cricket Club in Canberra. He excelled behind the stumps, setting a club record of 41 dismissals, comprising 33 catches, 6 stumpings and 2 run-outs. With the bat, he contributed vital runs throughout the season, highlighted by a high score of 77 and a match-winning knock in the last over of a T20 semi-final, demonstrating composure and the ability to perform under pressure.
Last year, with university commitments limiting his availability, Karl still managed 303 runs at an average of 38 for Helston, a strong return given his reduced schedule. Captaining Cardiff University's first team, Karl has started the 2026 season in excellent form, scoring 78 against Bournemouth University and a rapid 63 off 39 balls in a T20 fixture.
The left hander is keen to get back home after university is finished and make his mark for both Helston and Cornwall, particularly looking forward to the 3 day NCCA Championship. Making contributions where he can and impacting the game with both bat and gloves, or in the field where every ball is an opportunity to change the game.
Leathley is now keen to head overseas again, he is travelling with his partner. He is also a keen and qualified (ECB Core Coach).
