Sophie Brandom is a dedicated and highly motivated all-round cricketer from Devon, United Kingdom, recognised for her leadership, consistency, and impact both on and off the field.
Currently serving as Vice-Captain of Plymouth Women’s First XI, Sophie has also demonstrated outstanding leadership within the county pathway, captaining Devon Under-18s in 2026 after serving as vice-captain the previous season.
Sophie’s senior league cricket journey began in 2022, where she played a key role in Ottery St Mary Cricket Club Second XI’s promotion to Division East in the Tolchards Devon Cricket League. Her performances in the Devon Women’s League have continued to flourish, progressing from Topsham St James, where she was named Bowler of the Year in 2023, to Plymouth Women in 2025 in pursuit of a higher standard of cricket. She made an immediate impact with both bat and ball, helping the club secure the league title.
An accomplished off-spin bowler, Sophie generates significant turn while varying her pace intelligently to outthink batters. A genuine wicket-taking option, she is the primary spinner in every side she represents and complements her bowling with outstanding athleticism and energy in the field.
After a successful 2023 campaign and a strong start to 2024, Sophie's season was interrupted by a wrist injury. Rather than allowing the setback to halt her progress, she dedicated the winter to developing a flatter, quicker variation. The work paid dividends during the 2025 season, when she was named Devon Under-18s Bowler of the Year and earned her breakthrough into the Devon Women’s First XI.
With the bat, Sophie is an aggressive lower middle-order player who looks to take the game forward through positive intent and attacking stroke play. She continues to focus on adding greater consistency to her run scoring while maintaining her naturally proactive approach.
Beyond playing, Sophie has developed an impressive coaching résumé. Since 2022, she has supported junior coaching at Ottery St Mary Cricket Club, completed work experience with A Clements Coaching, and has since gained her ECB Core Coach (Level Two) qualification. She now works as a support coach within the Devon County Age Group programme, co-leads junior training sessions at Ottery St Mary, and continues coaching alongside A Clements Coaching, helping to inspire and develop young cricketers of all abilities.
Driven by her passion for the game and commitment to continuous improvement, Sophie is now seeking her first overseas opportunity, with a preference to be based in New Zealand, where she hopes to continue developing her cricket while making a meaningful contribution both on and off the field.
