Michaela Hanekom is a dynamic fast-bowling allrounder renowned for her sharp reflexes, outstanding fielding, and ability to turn games with crucial catches and run-saving efforts. Bowling at speeds of 100-110 km/h, she strategically adapts her technique to outthink batters, while her middle-order batting adds depth to any lineup. A dedicated and self-motivated athlete, Michaela leads by example, serving as captain for both Stellenbosch University Women's and Boland Women's teams.
Beyond her playing career, she is a Senior Phase education graduate and an experienced school cricket coach, passionate about player development and the growth of women's cricket. Her cricketing achievements span provincial, university, and club level: she represented the Boland U19 Provincial Team from 2015 to 2019 before stepping up to Boland Women's Team in 2016, a spell that continues to this day and which she captained through the 2023/24 season — she remains an active first-team fixture, having played as recently as February 2026. At university level she turned out for Stellenbosch University Women's Team from 2016 to 2023, captaining the side in 2023/24 and picking up their Bowler of the Year award in 2021/22 followed by the Player & Bowler of the Year double in 2023/24. She also represented Stellenbosch Cricket Club Women's Team in 2024, captaining them through the 2024/25 season. Her other honours include the Boland Women's ODI Player of the Year award for 2022/23, and she holds a CSA Level 1 Umpires' Certificate alongside her playing commitments.
Across her Boland Women career she has built a genuine all-round record, with 51 wickets at 18.60 in List A cricket and 19 more at 15.94 in T20s, to go with useful runs in the middle order in both formats — the mark of a player as valuable with the ball as she is with the bat and in the field.
Michaela is committed to advancing her cricket career, with the ambition of competing at the highest domestic and international levels. She is actively seeking overseas opportunities to refine her skills, gain diverse playing experiences, and challenge herself against top-tier opposition. As both a player and leader, she strives to make a lasting impact on the game while mentoring the next generation of cricketers.
