Akbar Ali is a massive prospect for Bangladesh cricket, and it seems only a matter of time till he's on the big stage.
Despite his tender age, Ali has already written his name into Bangladesh cricketing folklore by skippering his nation to the ICC Under-19 World Cup title in 2020.
His exploits throughout the tournament, including his match-winning undefeated innings in the final against India, ensured he was enlisted as captain of the U19 World Cup team of the tournament.
At domestic level, Ali has already registered 140 plus matches across the three formats, dating back to his List A debut in 2019. He has scored neigh on 3,000 runs with a century, 14 fifties and averages nudging 30 in both first-class, and List A cricket.
The gloveman has also represented a range of Bangladeshi representative sides since the 2020 World Cup in South Africa, including the A, and Emerging Players sides. He looks a shoe-in for full National honours in the not too distant future.
It's fair to say, he could well skipper his country in years to come given his leadership pedigree. Not only has he guided Bangladesh to their first ever ICC Trophy, he then skippered Rangpur Division to National Cricket League glory, whilst still only 20 years of age. He has also won the BCL in both 2022, and 2023, and was a finalist in the BPL last year.
Ali is clearly a serious prospect, who is in the form of his career, having scored 441 runs at 49 during Bangladesh's last first-class campaign (2023/24).
The leader-of-men is looking for opportunities in both UK club, and Franchise cricket in future. A star in the making. One to keep tabs on!
