Alexia Kontopirakis (18), a talented batting all-rounder from Cape Town, South Africa.
Alexia’s cricket career began for the pretigous, Somerset College boys' teams, where she competed from ages 11 to 18. She made her U19 boys' debut for the School in 2022, scoring a well-composed 38 runs. She made headlines with a five-wicket haul (5-27-8), securing a spot on the CSA U19 Schools Cricket Honour Board. By the end of the 2024 season, she had played in 46 First XI games.
Alexia represented Western Province at the U13 Interprovincial Tournament before progressing to U16 in 2021. She was later selected for the CSA U19 World Cup camp in April 2022.
In 2022, Alexia took her talents overseas on a three-month cricket exchange in the UK, attending Haileybury School in Hertfordshire. She made an immediate impact with both bat and ball and producing standout performances, including; 5/5 vs Seven Oaks and 100 not out against Culdford.
Alexia continued her U19 provincial career, securing a spot in the CSA U19 camp squad of 26 in October 2023. She played a pivotal role in Western Province’s Interprovincial Tournament, leading her team to the final against KZN Coastal.
In March 2024, Alexia made her Western Province Senior Ladies debut at Newlands Cricket Stadium against Gauteng Lions.
After narrowly missing out on final CSA U19 World Cup squad selection, a new opportunity arose—Italy's National Women's Team. In April 2024, she joined the squad for the ECW tournament in Malaga, Spain, where she played a crucial role, batting at No. 5, fielding exceptionally, and taking key wickets.
Alexia is now seeking a season in Australia or New Zealand to continue developing her game and competing at a high level.
