Angelo Jayasinghe is an accomplished first-class batting all-rounder playing for Negombo in Sri Lankan domestic cricket.
Whilst known for his batting in Sri Lanka, Jayasinghe is also a competent spinner, capable of bowling both off and leg-spin, something he proved during his maiden UK stint in 2019.
Since his first-class debut in February 2013, Jayasinghe has racked up over 4,500 runs across the three formats. He has enjoyed several stand-out seasons, particularly in red-ball cricket, including his 424 runs at 60.57 in 2019/20.
Jayasinghe has always been highly regarded within Sri Lankan cricket circles. As a youngster, he skippered the Sri Lankan Under-15s on their tour to Malaysia (2008) and was vice-captain for the Under-17s on their tour to India the following year. In 2011, he was at the helm for the Sri Lanka Under-19s, leading the side back to India, before acting as the understudy for the ICC World Cup in Australia and Asia Cup in Malaysia in 2012.
Given his success at age-group level, he was fast-tracked into senior domestic cricket making his first-class debut for Chilaw Marians in February 2013.
Two years later, he toured New Zealand with the Sri Lankan A team, was part of the Board President’s XI, and played South Africa, India, and Zimbabwe for the Development team during the 2015 and 2016 calendar years. Whilst he hasn’t progressed to full national honours, he remains a consistent run-getter on the domestic circuit.
In 2019, Jayasinghe headed North, taking up his first UK club contract. Playing in the prestigious Lancashire League he was a resounding success averaging over 40 with the bat, whilst impressing with the ball, taking 37 wickets at 14.54. He returned in 2021 and prior to picking up a thumb injury in August, Jayasinghe had scored 694 runs at 43.38 and taken 45 wickets at 10.53 in the Lincolnshire County Board Premier League for Bracebridge Heath.
Over the past two seasons (2022-23), he has excelled in the Surrey Championship (Div 1) for Chipstead, Coulsdon & Walcountians scoring 1,397 runs at 51.74 alongside 36 wickets at 27.75 (as at 01/08/23).
Next summer, Jayasinghe is open to options, ideally Player/Coach roles within striking distance of Croydon (Surrey) where he has local accommodation.
